The Learning Centre provides educational programmes for students in Years 9 to 13 who are in need of extra support with their learning, including ORRS students.
The department is well resourced and class sizes are small to cater for individual learning needs. When required, students have an Individual Learning Programme. The national curriculum is taught, adapted or an alternative curriculum is provided.
Students study the core curriculum subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies and are very ably supported by highly qualified and experienced teachers and teacher aides.
All the students attend mainstream subjects such as Options and Physical Education.
Where appropriate, individual students are encouraged to attend courses or work experience and transition from high school is provided.
Students in Years 11, 12 and 13 are encouraged and supported to achieve NCEA credits.
The staff work in close liaison with the school’s Pastoral Care team and outside agencies.
