Friday September 10th - Year 12 Biology field trip to Diamond Harbour. This is to complete our postponed fieldwork for Unit Standard 8930, 3 credits at Level 2. Students will be studying the rocky shore community and the environmental and biological factors that affect the organisms that live there. There is a small cost of $10 for this trip (most students have already paid this) as we have to travel to Lyttleton and across the harbour by boat. This is a beautiful day out and we always have a lot of fun (and ice cream).

There is no excuse for not doing your homework! If it is not handed in by the due date, please expect consequences! Homework is important - it consolidates the knowledge gained in class and allows you to more fully understand the class work you have been completing. All homework is set to allow you enough time to ask for help if it is needed. If you have a genuine reason as to why homework was not completed, a note from home is acceptable.
In case you hadn't heard, I took part in a rather daft adventure this Easter. I was part of a two person team taking part in the Rickshaw Run - a cross country race in a motorised rickshaw across India. With top speeds of 45km/h and a bone-juddering 145cc engine, our beast of a machine was pushed to the very limit! There were 70 teams in total, and only two from New Zealand. This silly event started in Kochi, in the southern province of Kerala, and finished 4000km later, in the ancient province of Sikkim in the Himalayas. We broke down on numerous occasions, and often in the most unhelpful of places - all part of the adventure!
I raised money for two charities, FRANK Water Projects and the Mercy Corps, both of which do valuable work with communities in India. My team mate and I managed to raise nearly $3000! Thank you to all those who helped out. When i returned to NZ in April, I was interviewed by Paul Henry on TVOne's "Breakfast". If you would like to see the (embarrassing) interview, click here.
