Physical Education – is compulsory for all Year 9 to 11 students.

 

 

Junior School Physical Education


Core Year 9 and 10 programme.

The core programme offers a full range of topics related to the curriculum as well as Health.

Essential elements covered: Personal Health and Physical Development, Movement Concepts and Motor Skills, Relationships with Other People, Healthy Communities and Environments.

The Key Competencies are thinking, using language, symbols and texts. managing self, relating to others. participating and contributing.

These are all delivered through the use of practical and theory sessions involving several sporting codes.

 

 

Senior School Physical Education

 

Year 11

We offer both a Core PE and an alternative programme aerobics and step, pump and weight training programmes.

Both programmes deliver NCEA level 1 credits.

 

Year 12

Core academic includes fitness studies, personal training, sports education and leadership  This programme delivers NCEA level2 credits.

 

Year 12/13

This also offers a volleyball academy module, specialised volleyball training 4 hours per week. This covers practical and theory work with NCEA credits on offer.

 

Year 13

Core academic NCEA level 3. Fitness studies, biomechanics and motor learning and the application of these in practical work.

 

Sports Academies

Designed for sports students who want extra development in their selected code. 12 hours of dedicated sports academy time along with the option of mainstream subjects or further sports modules.

Sports Development: This academy focuses on a range of codes and sporting experiences. The students cross train with a variety of training methods. Resistance training is also a part of this course. Theory work is designed to gain NCEA credits.

 

Basketball: The students will be offered a full training programme designed to lift students skills and knowledge to the highest levels.

 

Rugby League: The students are trained to the highest levels with the outcome to become tactically more aware and increase base skills.

All students are eligible to make the elite teams representing Aranui H.S.

 

Year Nine sports modules – incorporated into the year nine PE programme, these Junior Academies offer specialised time towards developing skills and knowledge in Basketball, Netball, Rugby League.

 

Inter School Sport – Terms 1 and 4 Summer sport - Terms 2 and 3 Winter sport

Aranui HS has a proud tradition in sport. We offer a wide selection of Summer and Winter codes for junior and senior students.  Most sport is played after school on Wednesdays however some codes Volleyball, Basketball Netball also play weeknights or weekends.

Summer: Cricket,Volleyball, Touch, Tennis,

Winter: Basketball, Netball, Rugby, League, Chess, Football, Golf
